I have cancer, but I don't expect it to be connected with 'the Pit." (only swam there a few times). When i DID swIm there with friends, the swimming area was separated by only a concrete wall (2 feet thick?) from the filthy water of what we believed to be a dumping pool from the Dewey and Almy Company (later bought out by ??? Grace Company (??) (a Canadian company). Even as a seventh grader as environmentalism was just getting up steam, I was amazed that the two water areas were joined together! I looked up the pit today specifically to see if there was anything about pollution between the two). P.S. I do have generally excellent memories of Rindge Ave and that whole area of North Cambridge. All I've seen (so far) is common carp. Elsewhere in the the Little River and connected water bodies I have seen sunfish (probably bluegill). There are probably mosquitofish, but those would be difficult to see from the path!
